The Orthodox Church of Ukraine has transitioned to the new Julian calendar, resulting in a shift of significant religious dates by nearly two weeks.

According to the new church calendar, Christmas in Ukraine is celebrated from December 24 to December 25.

Traditionally, caroling in Ukraine begins on Christmas Eve, but under the new church calendar, it can start on the evening of December 24.

When caroling takes place in Ukraine according to the new calendar, regardless of the region:

On the evening of December 24 during the Eve of Christmas and on the morning of December 25 for the Nativity of Christ.

If you follow the old style, the date for caroling remains unchanged: on the evening of January 6 during the Eve of Christmas and on the morning of January 7 for Christmas.

When sowing takes place in 2024 according to the new calendar – January 1.

Traditional sowing songs are sung exclusively by boys, youths, and men.

Previously, the custom of "shchedruvannya" occurred before the Old New Year on January 13, but according to new traditions, it will now be celebrated on December 31 during the Generous Evening and Malanka.

Notably, St. Nicholas Day in 2024 marks the beginning of the cycle of winter church celebrations.

St. Nicholas Day is one of the important holidays in Ukraine, especially for children, who eagerly await gifts under their pillows each year.
