The enemy has found a new way to protect their reconnaissance drones.

As noted by Defence Express, recently Russian operators have been using rear-view cameras that allow UAVs to automatically evade attacks. This tactic from the enemy could complicate the operations of Ukrainian operators, increasing the chances of Russian drones avoiding defeat.

The rear-view camera on Russian drones provides an extended field of view, enabling the operator or automated system to detect approaching Ukrainian FPV drones from behind. The installed video signal processing system analyzes the image in real-time, and the program, upon recognizing a threat, instantly issues a command to evade. This maneuver allows the Russian reconnaissance drone to alter its trajectory and avoid a direct collision, which could result in losing visual contact with the accompanying Ukrainian drone.

Defence Express expert Sergey Beskrestnov, known by his callsign "Flash," also spoke about other countermeasures employed by the Russians. In addition to cameras, they have widely adopted electronic warfare systems to suppress control signals.

"For Russia, the issue of protecting their reconnaissance UAVs is not only relevant but may also involve relatively valuable elements, as they will still constitute only a small percentage of the cost of the reconnaissance drone itself. For instance, the "Orlan-10" costs around $100,000," explains the expert.
