Elon Musk, billionaire and owner of Tesla and the social network X, played a significant role in Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election.
The Times reports that Musk not only contributed nearly $119 million to the campaign but also actively supported Trump at rallies. However, critics suggest that this support may be driven by Musk's own economic interests.
Immediately following Trump's victory, Musk shared a meme on social media showing him with belongings in the Oval Office, hinting at his desire to become a key figure in the new administration. Earlier, in his speech, Trump referred to Musk as a "special genius" who needs to be "protected." Experts speculate that Musk may be counting on a return on his investments and an expansion of his influence within the U.S. administration.
Musk's father, Errol Musk, is convinced that his son has become an important figure for Trump.
"I believe Elon has been a turning point for Trump. People believe in Elon, so if Elon believes in Trump, then people believe in Trump as well. It's time for America to get its act together, and Elon will help with that," he noted.
Musk's support for Trump raises concerns among some American politicians. Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki labeled him a "disinformation propagandist" and warned that his connection to Trump could lead to an increase in conspiracy narratives.
However, while Musk remains one of the largest investors in China, where he sells Tesla cars worth billions and owns a major factory in Shanghai, his desire to shield his business in the U.S. from Chinese influence may assist the new Trump administration in fulfilling its economic promises.
