The Ukrainian state registries have experienced the most extensive cyberattack in recent times, leading to a temporary suspension of the operations of the registries under the Ministry of Justice.
This was reported by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Justice Minister Olha Stefanishyna.
According to the minister, it has been confirmed that the attack was organized by Russian hackers with the intention of disrupting the functioning of critical infrastructure. Preliminary findings indicate that the attack affected only state registries, and other resources remained unharmed.
Currently, the priority is to restore the operations of the following registries:
- The State Register of Civil Status Acts of Citizens;
- The Unified State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs;
- The State Register of Rights to Immovable Property and Their Encumbrances.
Stefanishyna noted that even for the initial restoration of the system, it may take up to two weeks.
After restoration, a detailed analysis of the attack is planned to be conducted in collaboration with relevant authorities to strengthen protection against similar incidents in the future.
It is worth noting that, according to the report from the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine for the first half of 2024, the number of cyberattacks increased by 19% compared to the second half of 2023.
