The North Atlantic Alliance will need to continue deterring Russia for another 10 to 20 years. This is essential to prevent Moscow from considering an attack on NATO.
This was stated in an interview with Reuters by the head of Estonia's Foreign Intelligence Service, Kaupo Rosin.
"The task for NATO over the next 10 to 20 years will be to deter Russia, so it doesn't come up with foolish ideas about a military offensive against the West," Rosin noted.
He clarified that this task is achievable, but it must be taken seriously in the West. Additionally, investments in the defense sector are necessary.
"NATO's military plans and those of its member states must be reliable, realistic, and supported by actual resources related to troop presence, units, and munitions. If we do our homework correctly, we will be able to deter Russia," believes the head of Estonia's Foreign Intelligence Service.
According to Rosin, he finds it hard to imagine that Russia will engage in peace negotiations with Ukraine anytime soon. Meanwhile, Moscow will attempt to "limit NATO's activities, NATO infrastructure, and troop presence in close proximity to the Russian Federation."
