The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, addressed the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing the new head of the military administration of the Ukrainian capital, Timur Tkachенко, of attempting to usurp power.
"I appeal to the President of Ukraine. While you, as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, are focused on the war and the defense of Ukraine, people around you are engaged in political intrigues. These processes are becoming critical.
In Kyiv, there is an attempt to destabilize power and eliminate local self-governance.
The new head of the KMVA, who lacks military education and experience and has replaced combat generals, is blocking the resolution of key economic issues. Restoration of damaged houses, compensation for affected residents, infrastructure recovery, and others. This destabilizes the management of the city and poses a threat to the capital's sustainability," the Mayor of Kyiv stated.
According to Klitschko, Timur Tkachенко is attempting to usurp the powers of the mayor, the city council, and the KMDA, violating the law. I remind you that the military administration is a temporary body meant to focus on defense and security, not on usurping power.
"Kyivans elected the mayor of their city. And I will continue to protect their interests. I urge the President, as the guarantor of the Constitution, to prevent the destruction of local self-governance — the foundation of democracy," the appeal stated.
At the end of 2024, Zelensky dismissed the head of the military administration of Kyiv, Serhiy Popko, and appointed Timur Tkachенко, who had previously worked in both the Cabinet and the KMDA, to this position.
Recently, the new head of the KMVA stated that he discussed security issues and the effective functioning of Kyiv, as well as the problems facing the capital of Ukraine, with the president.
"There is only one way out of this situation — change. So we are starting with what residents of Kyiv will feel immediately — the replacement of heads of district state administrations…
We expect the appointment of new leaders in the near future, whose task will be to implement these goals," Tkachенко stated.
