The Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, reported 177 confirmed cases of the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian military forces. He made this statement in an interview with the publication "Ukrainska Pravda."
According to Lubinets, in 2024, the number of such crimes nearly doubled compared to the figures from the previous two years of full-scale war. Specifically, out of the 177 recorded cases, 109 occurred this year alone.
The majority of evidence regarding these crimes is sent to the ombudsman's office through video materials received from Ukrainian intelligence agencies, as well as information provided by military units. Furthermore, the occupiers themselves publish videos of the executions on social media.
The Ukrainian side informs the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations about these crimes.
The ombudsman noted that the ICRC has yet to accuse Russia of torture or the killings of Ukrainian prisoners of war, neither publicly nor in private communications.
At the same time, reports from the UN in 2024 have for the first time included official confirmations of the execution of Ukrainian defenders by Russian military forces.
