Billionaire investor Scott Bessent has been confirmed by the Senate as the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. A total of 68 senators voted in favor of his appointment, while 29 opposed it. The meeting was broadcasted by C-SPAN.
Scott Bessent is 62 years old and is an openly gay individual. He advised Trump on economic policy during the presidential campaign.
He is the founder of the hedge fund Key Square Capital Management and previously worked at Soros Fund Management, which was established by Democratic donor George Soros.
During Senate hearings in mid-January, Scott Bessent expressed his support for strengthening anti-Russian sanctions.
He stated that if confirmed as head of the Treasury, he would carry out the U.S. president's directives to increase pressure on the Kremlin regime to end the war in Ukraine.
Janet Yellen has held the position of Secretary of the Treasury since 2021, having been appointed after Joe Biden took office.
Earlier, the U.S. Senate approved the nominations of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
