Air quality in Kyiv is deteriorating once again.

У Києві знову погіршується повітря

As of February 23, air quality in Kyiv has deteriorated, particularly on the left bank, where pollution levels are rated as very high. On the right bank, the indicators remain at an average level. At the same time, the radiation background in the capital is within normal limits.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration, citing the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation.

Experts attribute the decline in air quality to the accumulation of suspended dust particles. Due to low wind conditions and high atmospheric pressure, pollutants are not dispersing, leading to their accumulation.

According to monitoring data, the worst situation is observed on the left bank of the capital:

  • Kharkivske Shosse, 7/1 – overall air quality index 100 (very high pollution level);
  • Architect Verbytsky Street, 26 – overall air quality index 100 (very high pollution level).

Residents of the left bank area of Kyiv are advised to follow safety precautions:

  • keep windows closed;
  • limit time spent outdoors;
  • drink more water;
  • use air purifiers at maximum capacity.

Air quality is determined by the levels of several pollutants, including dust particles, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ground-level ozone, and carbon monoxide. The lower the overall index, the cleaner the air.

Earlier, on January 30, Kyiv authorities had already warned about elevated pollution levels. At that time, the situation was also caused by a significant concentration of dust in the air.
