The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that lowering the mobilization age in Ukraine is not a primary task, as the main goal is to enhance the technological level of the army. He shared this in an interview with the French publication Le Parisien.
Our mobilization age starts at 25 years, and this remains unchanged. Some leaders propose lowering this age, but I consider such discussions unfair. I have addressed this both publicly and in private conversations with partners, - noted Zelensky.
He explained that modern warfare significantly differs from traditional combat of the past.
It is no longer just trenches or fighting in foxholes with a rifle. Modern warfare involves the use of drones, artillery, long-range weapons, and aviation. It is impossible to advance without protected airspace, and this is well known. Therefore, such proposals are more about political games, - he said.
The President also acknowledged that younger soldiers may be physically stronger but emphasized the importance of preserving human lives.
The key is the technological advancement of our army, not the age of servicemen. Modern warfare is not hand-to-hand combat; it is a battle of weapons, intellect, and technology. We must invest in these areas, provide the army with modern armaments, and seek support from partners in the form of licenses and funding, - stressed Zelensky.
