The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, prioritizes Moscow's policies over Slovakia's interests. Currently, Europe is working to address the consequences of his decisions.
This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in X.
Zelensky commented on the actions of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, emphasizing his miscalculations in foreign and energy policy.
"It's good that Prime Minister Fico has returned from his vacation at a luxury hotel in Vietnam and is now in Bratislava. It must be personally difficult for him — instead of enjoying himself, he now has to try to rectify his own mistakes," the President noted.
He pointed out that Fico's expectation of long-term cooperation with Moscow was a clear mistake.
"It was an obvious error on Fico's part to believe that his shadow schemes with Moscow would last indefinitely," Zelensky stated.
The President also mentioned that Ukraine had offered Slovakia assistance in adapting to the lack of gas transit from Russia, but Fico, according to him, "arrogantly refused."
Zelensky emphasized that European partners had repeatedly warned Fico about the impossibility of inaction, yet now the Slovak Prime Minister is trying to shift the blame onto others.
"Many in Europe warned him that one cannot simply do nothing and wait. Now he is attempting to use PR, lies, and loud accusations to deflect blame from himself onto someone else," the head of Ukraine remarked.
In Zelensky's view, the problem lies in Fico's reliance on Moscow rather than on the interests of his own country, a united Europe, or common sense. The President termed this "a losing bet from the start."
At the same time, Zelensky expressed hope that the diversification of energy resource sources in Europe, cooperation with the European Commission, and increased supplies of American gas would help resolve the issues arising from the short-sightedness of some European leaders.
