Australia will transfer 49 of its outdated M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a new military assistance package worth $245 million. This was announced by the press service of the Australian government.
This aid package, valued at approximately $245 million, will enhance the firepower and mobility of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as complement the support that partners provide to Ukrainian armored brigades.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, the total value of military assistance provided by Australia to Ukraine has exceeded $1.3 billion, with the overall support amounting to more than $1.5 billion.
In January 2022, it was announced that the Australian M1A1 Abrams tanks would be replaced by M1A2 tanks. To support this transition, the Australian army will retain a small number of M1A1 tanks to assist in the implementation of the new M1A2 fleet.
Earlier, Germany updated its list of assistance to Ukraine.
