The stylish BMW Skytop will go into production. This convertible sports car will be released in a limited batch of 50 units, all of which are already sold out. This was reported on the official website of the German automaker.
Information regarding the production of the BMW Skytop was confirmed by the brand's chief designer, Adrian van Hooydonk. The new model will succeed the BMW 3.0 CSL, which was also released as a limited edition.
The BMW Skytop concept was unveiled in May at a retro show in the town of Villa d'Este on Lake Como (Italy). It is based on the BMW M8 Competition.
0This sports car is radically different from its donor model, featuring an entirely new body with an elegant design. It boasts a long hood, a pronounced "nose," and a tapered rear end. Notable features include a small grille and narrow LED headlights—the thinnest among all production cars.
1The roof of the BMW Skytop is removable (this body style is known as a coupe-targa). The interior layout remains unchanged compared to the BMW M8, but it has been adorned with premium leather, and the rear seats have been removed.
2The engine of the BMW M8 Competition remains unchanged. The sports car is equipped with a 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine producing 625 hp, allowing it to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, with a combined fuel consumption of 11.6 l/100 km.
By the way, a rare sports BMW with a powerful diesel engine was recently spotted in Ukraine.
