The UK Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Modini for the supply of long-range kamikaze drones, referred to as One Way Effectors (OWE) in British terminology. This was reported by Defense Express, citing a statement from the department.
The value of the agreement is £7.5 million (approximately $9.4 million), with the delivery of the drones planned over the next two years.
While the specific model of the drones has not been disclosed, Defense Express speculates that it pertains to the Dart 250—a jet-powered drone with a range of over 250 km, capable of carrying up to 25 kg of payload. This drone is also equipped with a modern navigation system that enables terrain-following flight.
It is anticipated that these drones may be used within the NATO Operation Cabrit, aimed at enhancing the Alliance's presence in the Baltic region to deter aggression from Russia.
The publication notes that the design of the Dart 250 may resemble some Ukrainian developments, particularly those showcased as cutting-edge projects. For instance, the "Palyanytsya" drone could be considered similar in design, although its appearance remained unknown.
The contract with Modini was awarded on a non-competitive basis due to the company's ability to ensure prompt fulfillment of the order. The first drones are expected as early as 2025. Experts suggest that the Dart 250 may have already undergone combat testing and demonstrated its effectiveness.
