Joyce Esser from the UK was allowed to use artificial intelligence for communication after losing her voice, but the AI independently banned her. This was reported by Daily Star.
The woman was diagnosed with motor neuron disease, a progressive neurological condition that damages the nerve cells controlling the muscles. Joyce can move her limbs, but she finds it difficult to speak and swallow.
She possesses a high-tech artificial intelligence tool that has recordings of her old voice uploaded to reproduce them.
Joyce was able to "speak" in her former voice by typing sentences on the device, selecting letters with her hand or gaze.
One day, while waiting for her husband to get ready, a message popped up on her device: "Come on, honey, get your butt in the car!"
The woman responded with a British joke about it being better to "put on some knickers."
"The next day, I received a warning from ElevenLabs that I had used unacceptable language and that I should not do it again!" Joyce admitted.
Joyce thought the warning wouldn't mean much, but the following day she was banned from using the device.
"I had just regained my voice, and they took it away from me... and this was only two days after I gave a presentation to a local group of people with musculoskeletal disorders, telling them how amazing ElevenLabs is," the woman added.
The company restored her account with an apology, but no one knows what went wrong.
On the company’s website, it states that there are rules prohibiting threats to children's safety, illegal activities, providing medical advice, impersonating others, interfering in elections, and more. However, there are no specific details regarding unacceptable language.
As a reminder, AI predicted that Baba Vanga or Nostradamus would win in a hypothetical boxing match in the ring.
