North Korea could emerge as a new player in the war against Ukraine, potentially sending up to a million troops to Russia.
This opinion was expressed by military expert and retired SBU Colonel Mikhail Prytula during a broadcast on the "Espresso" TV channel. According to him, North Korea has always supported Moscow.
Prytula emphasized that North Korea is a "project" of Soviet intelligence dating back to World War II when the Soviet Union occupied the Korean Peninsula. He noted that the collaboration between Russia and North Korea has been ongoing for over 70 years, with deep-rooted ties in the current military alliance.
"Moscow has consistently backed North Korea since the time of the occupation of the Korean Peninsula and the Korean War. This development is expected, as North Korea and Russia have acted together long before the current conflict," the expert pointed out.
According to Prytula, North Korean troops may serve as "cannon fodder" for Russian occupiers. He predicts that these soldiers will be used for the most challenging and dangerous combat missions.
"No one intends to send them back home. They may be utilized for assaults and other operations where a large ground force is needed," he stated.
Prytula believes that Ukraine must bolster its military strength to counter such a threat.
"This is a significant burden on our military, and we need to strengthen our army to hold back such a mass of people," the expert concluded.
