The mother of the late boxer Vyacheslav Uzelkov revealed for the first time why she hadn't spoken to her son for over 20 years.

According to Zinaida Uzelkova, Vyacheslav decided to get married when he was 20 years old. As parents, they believed that such an age was too young for marriage, but they supported their son nonetheless.

At the wedding, as Vyacheslav's mother recounts, instead of feeling joy for her son, she was constantly crying and couldn't stop, as she felt that this marriage would ruin her son's life. Despite her feelings, she said nothing to him. Almost immediately after the wedding, Vyacheslav cut off communication with his family.

Zinaida Uzelkova claims that her daughter-in-law, Marina Borzhenskaya, forbade Vyacheslav from maintaining a relationship with his parents. It got to the point where she publicly stated that his parents abused alcohol, which, according to Zinaida Uzelkova, was untrue.

"When they had their wedding, usually a mother feels happy, but I was crying so much at the wedding that Slavik was trying to calm me down. I felt that there would be no happiness in their family, but I said nothing. They got married, started living together — and it was like he disappeared. She, Marina, did not allow him to communicate with me. He never told me what she said to him. He loved and protected her so much that he never spoke poorly of her. When Robert was born, then Olivia, I brought them gold souvenirs to the hospital, I congratulated them, met them in the hospital — and that was it, we haven't communicated since. She didn't want to meet or talk with us, and accordingly, Slavik also stopped. We never turned him against his family; we never said anything bad," explained the mother of the late boxer.

By 2021, when Vyacheslav officially divorced Marina, their communication resumed. According to Zinaida Uzelkova, this happened thanks to the boxer’s new partner, who encouraged him to reconcile with his parents. Although, in reality, there were no conflicts between them, as Zinaida Uzelkova claims. The woman is convinced that the reason for the 20 years of silence between them was indeed his ex-wife Marina.

"When his new girlfriend appeared, she always asked him, when was the last time you visited your mom? He said, '15-20 years ago, Marina didn't allow me to communicate.' To which Alena replied, 'Go see your mom, why aren't you going?' And he went. Since then, we started communicating; that was around 2020. He visited me until the very last day.
