The father of Kolya Kharkovsky, who was found guilty of a fatal traffic accident in Kharkiv in 2021, is being tried under the article for "gross neglect of parental duties." The mother is currently wanted.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the boy's parents under Article 166 (gross neglect of parental duties) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, reported Ivan Seminyakin, the deputy head of the child protection and domestic violence prevention department of the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office.
“Currently, the criminal case against the father of the accused has been sent to court, and the judicial proceedings are ongoing. The criminal proceedings against the mother of the accused have been suspended due to her being wanted,” Seminyakin explained.
As clarified by the spokesperson for the regional prosecutor's office, Dmitriy Chubenko, the mother of Kharkovsky is hiding from investigators abroad.
Recall that on November 29, the Chervonozavodsky District Court of Kharkiv announced the sentence for 19-year-old Kolya Kharkovsky—eight years in prison with a three-year driving ban. Additionally, he is required to pay one million hryvnias to each of the deceased driver's children. The traffic accident occurred on the evening of October 26, 2021, at the intersection of Gagarin Avenue (now Aerospace Avenue) and Odessa Street. An Infiniti Q50 collided with a Chevrolet Aveo, the 58-year-old driver of which died on the spot. Passengers in Kolya's car were injured—two boys and a girl were hospitalized. Experts determined that at the wheel of the Infiniti at the time of the accident was indeed Kharkovsky. Specialists also proved his sanity and that the accident occurred as a result of traffic rule violations. The teenager was driving at a speed of 180 km/h. The Infiniti driven by Kharkovsky was in good condition. The young man spent the following three years in pre-trial detention.
