Treasure hunter Joseph Cook discovered on the beach a lost ring valued at $40,000 and returned the jewelry to its rightful owner after months of searching. He shared more details about this on his TikTok page.
Joseph was walking along the beach with a metal detector when he received a signal. At first, he thought it was a nickel or a quarter, but then he spotted a massive gemstone sticking out of the sand.
"I was shocked when I saw it. I definitely screamed out of excitement and immediately started thinking about whose ring it might be," Cook said in an interview with Newsweek.
That same day, the man began browsing online forums for lost items, trying to find the person who had lost the ring, but he didn't stop there.
"I sent emails and called stores all over America. I asked jewelers to examine the ring and found out it was a special type of diamond — very expensive," the treasure hunter added.
Eventually, after a month, Joseph received several calls and messages from people claiming the gem belonged to them. The breakthrough came after Cook left his contact number at the store where the ring was sold, allowing the real owners to reach out to him.
"I was so shocked that I actually found the owners. It’s the best feeling in the world. We decided to meet in front of the hotel on the beach where the ring was found," Joseph added.
The husband of the jewelry owner mentioned that his wife had almost given up hope of seeing the piece again.
"My wife was crying and so happy to get the ring back. She said she didn't even go for a swim — she lost the jewelry while playing soccer with our son," he added.
The corresponding video on TikTok has garnered over 4.3 million views and 100,000 likes.
For reference, on a beach in Ibiza, Spain, a man found seven gold rings in one day. According to him, three of the rings are nine carats, another three are eighteen carats, and one of them weighs nineteen carats.
