A man cycled over 4,000 km to reconcile with his wife. Here’s how she responded.

A man traveled nearly 4,400 km on a bicycle across southwestern China in 100 days to reconcile with his wife, who had grown distant after two years of separation. This is reported by SCMP.

Zhou, in his 40s, hails from Lianyungang in Jiangsu province in eastern China. He met his wife Li in Shanghai, and they got married in 2007.

By 2013, they had already separated. However, they later reconciled and remarried, after which the couple had a son and a daughter. After some time, they divorced again due to personal conflicts.

"There weren't any serious issues between us; we were just both very stubborn and acted impulsively, which led to several breakups and reconciliations," Zhou explained.

He clarified that despite their arguments, they remained in contact. During one of their meetings, Zhou suggested to Li that they should be together again. She mentioned that she was going to Lhasa.

"If he could bike there, I might consider reconciliation," the woman joked.

She didn't expect Zhou to actually do it.

The man began his cycling journey from the southeastern city of Nanjing on July 28, and over 100 days, he covered 4,400 km, finally reaching Lhasa on October 28.

During his journey, Zhou encountered two significant incidents. The first occurred in Anhui province, eastern China, where he suffered a heatstroke and needed hospitalization.

The second, more serious incident took place in Yichang, in central China's Hubei province, where he lost consciousness while biking on the road, again experiencing heatstroke in 40-degree heat, and he ran out of water.

"The situation in Yichang was quite serious; my wife even traveled hundreds of kilometers to take care of me," Zhou recalls.

Li urged him to abandon the trip, but Zhou insisted he would complete his journey.

Upon arriving in Lhasa, the couple held a small reconciliation ceremony and officially announced their reunion.

Now, Zhou is planning his next cycling trip to Nepal and Europe, while Li has returned home to Jiangsu province.
