Ukrainian lawyer Rostyslav Kravets believes that the NABU should be dissolved, as it protects individuals close to it who undermine the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine. This was his response to the court's ruling, which overturned the decision to close the criminal proceedings against Shabunin.
"The NABU operates on the principle of 'no case, no court' when it involves people connected to it or those who, at the behest of foreigners, are destroying the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine and undermining its defense capabilities. The NABU needs to be abolished. Ukraine does not need intelligence agencies from other countries," Kravets stated.
He quoted the ruling from the investigating judge of the VAKS, which indicates that in the case of Shabunin, who received financial support and additional rewards but failed to report to his military unit, NABU detective Biryukov conducted a negligent pre-trial investigation. In particular, he did not investigate all the signs of criminal offenses. Given this, the judge annulled the detective's decision to close this criminal proceeding.
Earlier, military officer Volodymyr Boyko published details about the Shabunin case. He noted that during an inspection by the Command of the Territorial Defense Forces, it was discovered that in 2022-2023, soldier Shabunin, who was mobilized to the 207th separate battalion of the Territorial Defense (military unit A7376), had not appeared at his military unit, as he was considered "seconded to the NABU" based on letters from Novikov and Sytnyk.
At the same time, Shabunin received not only his military salary but also an additional reward for performing combat tasks amounting to 30,000 UAH per month, Boyko pointed out.
