As reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, the man sustained multiple shrapnel wounds as a result of the shelling.

“On that day, 36 police officers were injured, and our colleague, Colonel of Police Andrey Matviyenko, was killed at the strike site. Alexander was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Medics fought for his life for over a week,” — noted law enforcement.

The police officer was 44 years old. He is survived by his wife, a 20-year-old daughter, and an 18-year-old son.
