Regarding the situation in Kharkiv, the threats of shelling, and the destruction following the recent "arrivals" in the city, shared in a national marathon broadcast, Mayor Igor Terekhov.
According to him, the night in the city was relatively calm, except for the flying "Shaheds" over Kharkiv. The mayor added that air raid alerts are sounded regularly in the city.
“At any moment, there could be shelling in Kharkiv, so it is essential to be very cautious, to heed the air raid signals, and to take care of oneself. I am addressing this to the residents of Kharkiv who are currently living in the city,” the mayor warned.
As a result of the latest arrival on January 5, private homes and a business were damaged in the city. Fortunately, there were no injuries, Terekhov added, and reminded that a "Molniya-1" drone had "arrived" in the city.
“It is a type of aircraft, very fast and quite small in size. It carries a small amount of explosive. But one must be very cautious because if it lands near a person and explodes, that person will be killed,” the city head emphasized.
He also reminded that as a result of Russian shelling, over 2,500 houses were damaged in Kharkiv last year alone—some of which will never be rebuilt. In the meantime, only 100 objects have been restored in 2024.
“This year, we plan to restore 160 houses, but you understand that funds are lacking. And the main issue is that when the threat of shelling persists, it is very difficult to build. Yes, there is a lot to do, many plans for the restoration of the city of Kharkiv. But our primary task today is to bring people back home. Therefore, when you talk about 'priorities,' the priority is, of course, the restoration of residential buildings, infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and this is very important,” Terekhov noted.
He added that the restoration is funded not only from the city budget but also through state financing, as well as support from international partners.
