In Ukraine, electricity consumption rose by 2.5% within a day. Ukrainians will not face outages for now, but it is advised not to overload the energy system during peak consumption hours. The company "Ukrenergo" provided information about the system's status and outage schedules in their Telegram channel.
On the morning of October 16, the press service of "Ukrenergo" announced that there was a 2.5% increase in consumption over the past 24 hours. Due to technical reasons, there were outages in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. In most other regions, there are no mass outages, but electricity is being imported — 9,142 MWh has been received from neighboring countries (Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova). The maximum consumed power was 1.4 GW.
On the evening of October 15, Ukrainians were assured that there are no plans to introduce electricity outage schedules. Citizens were urged to reduce consumption from 10 AM to 4 PM, particularly by avoiding the use of high-power electrical appliances. On the DTEK portal, residents of the Kyiv region were also informed that there would be no outages for now according to the latest updates. The energy company published a table with six queues — it is empty and has no indications suggesting a planned loss of power supply.
The reason for the escalation in the energy situation is the drop in air temperature, ongoing military actions, and increased consumption due to the use of high-power devices, as noted by "Ukrenergo". Additionally, planned and restoration works are ongoing following nine massive strikes on the system. Due to strikes from the Russian Armed Forces, there are outages in 509 settlements across five regions: Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Kherson. For technical reasons, three regions — Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad — are currently without power, the energy workers reported.
In several messages, "Ukrenergo" informed about the electricity consumption situation over the last 10 days. From October 14 to 15, a 3% increase in electricity consumption was recorded. Prior to that, from Friday, October 11, to the evening of October 15, there was another increase of 1.9%. According to previous company reports, consumption rose throughout the past week: in total, by 4.2%. If we calculate the figures provided in the Telegram messages, from October 6 to 16, there was an estimated increase in electricity consumption of about 6%.
It is worth noting that in September 2024, MP Oleksii Kucherenko mentioned that Ukraine can import a limited amount of electricity from abroad. According to him, Europe cannot provide large capacities because it requires the construction of new power lines and the purchase of new equipment.
We remind you that on the night of October 16, the Russian Armed Forces launched 136 Shahed kamikaze drones across Ukraine. In the morning following the attack, power was lost in three southern regions, as confirmed by the regional administrations.
