A pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing the road in Kharkiv region, resulting in a traffic accident.

At approximately 06:00 on January 25, a fatal accident occurred on the Kyiv-Kharkiv-Dovzhansky highway in the village of Korotych.

According to data from the Main Department of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, the driver of an Opel Zafira struck a pedestrian. The 62-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

“Preliminary investigations have established that the man was crossing the road at an unauthorized location and was hit by the vehicle,” the police stated.

Law enforcement has initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 286 (violation of traffic safety rules or vehicle operation by individuals managing vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanctions for this article provide for up to 8 years in prison and a driving ban for up to 3 years, or without such a ban.
