Nearly half of Germans no longer wish to assist Ukraine, according to recent survey results.

Support for Kyiv in the form of weapons and financial aid is increasingly facing opposition from many Germans. Nearly half of the citizens of Germany no longer wish to assist Ukraine. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the opinion research institute Insa for t-online.

According to the survey results, 46% of Germans expressed opposition to the new federal government providing support to Ukraine in the form of either money or weapons.

Meanwhile, 28% want the next government to send weapons and money to Ukraine. 7% of Germans wish to help Ukraine solely with financial aid, while another 8% prefer to provide only weapons. 6% are undecided, and 3% of Germans are indifferent to this issue.

The survey revealed that 51% of women and 40% of men wish to halt support for Ukraine. In contrast, 35% of men and 22% of women want to continue sending weapons and money to Ukraine.

The survey results indicated that overall, the youth aged 18 to 29 are against aiding Ukraine (57%). Conversely, only 28% of Germans over the age of 70 do not wish to send weapons or money to Ukraine.

42% of West Germans want to cease assistance, compared to 61% in East Germany. 30% of West Germans wish to continue supporting Ukraine with weapons and money, whereas this applies to only 21% of Germans in the east.

Survey results regarding aid to Ukraine by political party:

  • 72% of "Green" voters want to continue supporting Ukraine with money and weapons;
  • 45% of Free Democratic Party voters, as well as a third of Union voters;
  • the majority of "Alternative for Germany" and Sarah Wagenknecht's Alliance wish to stop supporting Ukraine (both at 79%).

The survey was conducted online on February 24, 2025. A total of 1,000 residents of Germany aged 18 and older were surveyed.

It is worth noting that an earlier survey by the Onukh IBIF project showed that from May 2024 to November-January 2025, the approval rating of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's actions among Ukrainians increased by 7%.
