A 31-year-old resident of Kharkiv region was sentenced to 12 years in prison, noted the regional prosecutor's office.
“Prosecutors proved that during the occupation of the city of Kupiansk, a local resident voluntarily took on the role of ‘acting senior district police inspector of the police department of district inspectors of the Internal Affairs Management of the Temporary Civil Administration of Kharkiv Region,’” the prosecutor's office added.
Before the full-scale war, the man worked as a police officer. However, he was dismissed, and at the time of the city's occupation, the defendant found himself unemployed. After the enemy's invasion, he decided to collaborate with the Russian Federation.
“The collaborator managed the checkpoint regime at Russian roadblocks located in the city of Kupiansk and the Kupiansk district, conducting checks based on reports from local residents about criminal offenses. Documentarily, the subject formalized everything in accordance with Russian legislation,” law enforcement officials noted.
For this, he received an average of 50,000 rubles per month.
“Since the convicted individual is currently evading Ukrainian justice in Russia, the term of imprisonment will begin from the moment of actual detention. While he continues to evade serving the sentence imposed by the court, the statute of limitations is suspended. The convicted individual is wanted,” the prosecutor's office emphasized.
