An unwritten rule in the royal family may prevent Prince George from traveling with his parents, as well as his younger brother Louis and sister Charlotte. This is reported by Hello.
In the British royal family, there is a guideline that typically prohibits two heirs from flying on the same flight. Although Prince William and his eldest son traveled together to Australia in 2014, Canada in 2016, and Germany in 2017, everything may change when Prince George turns 12 in 2025.
Safety is the reason behind these instructions. Former royal pilot Graham Laurie recalled how his plane was painted red, white, and blue before officials changed the color scheme in 2002 to "look more like a regular airliner."
During his career, Laurie transported King Charles, Princess Diana, Prince William, and Prince Harry during family trips. However, things began to change when Prince William reached a certain age.
"The holiday flights I operated were mainly when the Wales family went to the Mediterranean. Interestingly, we all flew together: [the King], the Princess, Prince William, and Prince Harry, until Prince William turned 12. After that, he had to have a separate plane, and we could only fly all four together when they were young, and only with Her Majesty's written permission," the pilot shared.
According to Laurie, King Charles cannot fly with the Prince of Wales today.
When asked if it is possible that the royal family might soon ease their unwritten rules regarding family flights, Laurie suggested that it could happen.
"I know the King is trying to cut costs and is aware of travel, but I believe safety remains a top priority," said the former pilot.
