Russian forces are attempting to encircle Sloviansk from the northeast, focusing their efforts on breaching the positions of the Ukrainian defense in the Sever direction.
Military expert and retired Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Roman Svitan stated on the "24 Channel" broadcast that for this, Russian forces need to secure the area around Severodonetsk, including Bilohorivka, which remains under the control of Ukrainian defenders.
"Holding Bilohorivka creates significant challenges for the Russian army, especially against the backdrop of active resistance from the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kremensky forests, on the approaches to Kreminna," the expert shared.
In particular, Russian troops are aiming to advance towards Torske, heading toward Lyman with the goal of crossing the Black Horse River. This direction is part of a strategy aimed at surrounding Sloviansk from multiple sides.
"Russian forces are trying to organize a double flanking maneuver, encircling Sloviansk not only from the northeast but also through Chasiv Yar from the south to increase pressure," Svitan noted. According to him, the success of the operation is only possible by creating "claws" that will allow them to close the ring around the city.
The expert added that Ukrainian defense forces have already gained experience in this direction, effectively using artillery and establishing quality mine barriers. As a result, Ukrainian defenders are successfully holding back the attacks.
