The European Union is preparing a military aid package for Ukraine amounting to 6 billion euros to strengthen Ukraine's position ahead of peace negotiations with Russia.
This was reported by Politico, citing three EU diplomats.
It is expected that this military aid package will be one of the largest from the EU since February 2022 and will include various munitions and weaponry—from 1.5 million artillery shells to air defense systems.
Two of the publication's sources noted that the initial amount of 6 billion euros could increase to 10 billion euros or even more.
According to Politico, EU foreign ministers will consider the package on February 24 during an upcoming meeting in Brussels.
Countries may contribute either in resources or funds. Their financial contributions will be proportional to their gross national income, one of the diplomats stated.
Politico emphasizes that the substantial military aid package will demonstrate the EU's determination to support Ukraine after an emergency meeting of European leaders in Paris on February 18 did not yield concrete decisions.
