According to reporter Anna Losenski from Bild, after hearing the verdict, the defendant likely felt a sense of relief.
Investigators report that the accused is a 26-year-old man from Kharkiv, who worked as a cook in his hometown. During the war, he moved to Germany and settled in the Berlin district of Hellersdorf. Throughout this time, the man regularly broke the law and lived a life of indulgence, spending money on vodka, drugs, and engaging in theft. In September 2023, he attacked his 25-year-old neighbor, who was also originally from Ukraine.
“She was in her ninth month of pregnancy. In the morning, he pulled her out of bed, held a kitchen knife to her throat, and choked her until she lost consciousness. When the girl came to, he raped her. ‘I was like an animal,’ he admitted in court, ‘and she was having a meltdown.’ Fortunately, the baby was born healthy a few days later. The Ukrainian woman moved to Poland with him,” Bild reports.
The Berlin court sentenced the rapist to 7 years and 9 months in prison. However, journalists believe that after this, the man seemed to feel relief – now he will remain in Germany.
“Deportation to his homeland only threatens him halfway through his sentence, and until then, he is safe from the war,” the correspondents explained.
