The Mostysky District Court of Lviv Region has issued a verdict for Ivano-Frankivsk resident Nazariy Hodyur, who attempted to smuggle a draft evader abroad by hiding him under the seat of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van.
The court found the driver guilty of illegal border crossing and imposed a suspended sentence.
According to the case materials, in May of this year, Nazariy Hodyur created a special compartment under the rear seat of the van to transport a conscript.
On May 16, the driver arrived at the "Shehyni" border crossing point, where he tried to bypass border control by providing false information about the number of people in the vehicle. However, during the inspection, it was discovered that a man trying to leave Ukraine was hidden in the specially prepared compartment of the van.
During the trial, Nazariy Hodyur fully admitted his guilt.
Judge Svitlana Hiryak found Nazariy Hodyur guilty of illegally transporting individuals across the border (part 1 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment. At the same time, the offender was released from the main punishment, with a two-year probation period established. An appeal against the verdict may still be filed.
Additionally, Politeka wrote that in September 2024, the number of cases of military personnel leaving their positions without permission increased in the brigade in Sumy region.
