The damage to the cable is preliminarily classified as an act of sabotage.

“We are conducting a thorough investigation, as this incident could represent a serious crime posing a threat to Sweden’s national security,” commented the press service of SÄPO.

The suspected vessel was arrested after being identified by Latvian military forces. SÄPO noted that the case is being investigated in close cooperation with the coast guard, armed forces, and police of Sweden.
