Son accused of extorting money from his 80-year-old mother will face trial in Kharkiv region.

A 50-year-old resident of the Chuhuiv district in Kharkiv region will face trial for repeatedly abusing his elderly mother. The details of the case were reported by the National Police.

The 80-year-old woman had repeatedly filed complaints with the district police department about her son.

“Her son has been verbally insulting her for an extended period and threatening her with physical harm,” the department of communication of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kharkiv region clarified.

In response to the woman’s complaints, the police found that the “sonny” at 50 years old is unemployed and spends his life in a drunken stupor. When intoxicated, he insults and humiliates his mother, threatening her with violence, and also demands money from her.

“Police officers have repeatedly conducted preventive measures, held the man accountable for administrative offenses; however, the offender did not reform and continued to abuse alcohol and commit unlawful acts against his mother,” the police informed.

As a result, the incorrigible son has now found himself facing a criminal case. He has been notified of suspicion of domestic violence. The indictment has been sent to court. If the man's guilt is proven, he will spend the next two years in prison.
