The State Border Guard Service has uncovered a "mole" who was working for the FSB.

The court sentenced a 15-year prison term to the assistant head of the border guard unit in Volyn, who was remotely recruited by the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB).

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Defense in the Western Region.

According to the investigation, the 40-year-old border guard, following orders from Russian agents, gathered information about base locations, movement routes, and the armament of the Defense Forces engaged in the protection of the region. The occupiers were particularly interested in the locations of fortified areas and the estimated number of Ukrainian troops on the defense lines.

Additionally, the border guard transmitted confidential data about his colleagues and the leadership of the border unit to the FSB via messenger, including names, positions, call signs, phone numbers, and other information.

SBU counterintelligence agents detained the man in June 2024, discovering his Russian curator — a staff member of the FSB, Alexey Dobritsky, who is located in temporarily occupied Luhansk.

The border guard came to the attention of the FSB while serving in eastern Ukraine, after which he was dispatched to the Volyn region, where he began carrying out hostile tasks. He hoped for "evacuation" to Russia and a "position" in the military formations of the Russian Federation in exchange for his cooperation.

The court found him guilty under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — treason in conditions of martial law — and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of military rank.

During the trial, the border guard admitted his guilt. He is currently in custody, and his assets, including 123,000 hryvnias, 1,300 dollars, a car, mobile phones, and a laptop, are subject to confiscation.
