The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleg Synegubov, shared on the national marathon details about the most severe strikes by Russian forces in the region for the year 2024 and speculated on when all destruction from the latest massive bombardment by the RF could be addressed.
The first significant strike occurred in March 2024, when the RF launched over 30 missiles at critical infrastructure, noted Synegubov.
“The city experienced a blackout for nearly two days. Then, there was a follow-up strike in April using ‘Shahed’ drones. The enemy also attempted to finish off everything that had survived the initial attack. Our task was, first of all, to restore what we had lost, and secondly, to think about distributed energy systems. This involves decentralizing heating and electricity supply systems, implementing modular boiler houses, and establishing eco-generation systems, etc. Thanks to the attention of both the President of Ukraine and the Office of the President and the government, over 2 billion hryvnias of state funds were allocated to these initiatives. We managed to prepare for the heating season,” reminded the head of the Regional Military Administration.
However, the journey towards decentralizing the energy supply system will be long and challenging, Synegubov stated. In Kharkiv alone, approximately 400 cogeneration units need to be installed.
“Of course, we faced a challenge; just recently, a massive missile strike was delivered against the energy system of the city of Kharkiv, with 13 missiles hitting us. More than half a million residents of Kharkiv were left without energy supply, electricity, and heating. Naturally, we organized a round-the-clock restoration of the lost capacities, drawing on our unfortunate experiences from 2022-2023, which allowed us to resume energy supply, electricity, and heating. However, full restoration of the lost capacities will take months,” added the head of the Regional Military Administration.
