Law enforcement received reports of a homicide in the Kholodnohirs'kyi district the day before, on February 2, at 07:25.
According to data from the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, a man struck a 76-year-old woman in the head with an axe, resulting in her death.
“Upon examining the crime scene, it was established that after murdering his mother, the man killed the family cat and then went outside to kill three more animals,” the police noted.
During a search of the suspect's home, law enforcement discovered potential murder weapons and drugs.
Investigators informed the man of the suspicion under Part 1 of Article 115 (intentional homicide), Part 1 of Article 299 (cruel treatment of animals), and Part 2 of Article 309 (illegal possession of narcotic substances) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
If found guilty, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
