Employees of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported hearing loud explosions near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). They also noted gunfire coming from the vicinity of the facility.
This information was communicated by the IAEA.
The explosions were heard around 12:45 PM and 3:45 PM.
According to the IAEA, there were no casualties or injuries reported. Additionally, there was no impact on any equipment at the plant.
Experts from the IAEA mission stated that the intensity of military actions near the ZNPP has increased over the past day.
"Attacking any nuclear power plant is absolutely unacceptable. In light of the escalating military activity at the ZNPP, I once again call for maximum restraint to prevent an obvious threat to its safety and for strict adherence to the five specific principles established by the IAEA in the UN Security Council for the protection of the facility, as well as the seven indispensable pillars of nuclear safety during armed conflict, also defined by the IAEA," said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
