On January 24, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the establishment of the National Unity Agency, which will operate under the Ministry of National Unity. This new body will address issues related to the interaction with Ukrainians living abroad. This was reported by the ministry's press service.
The government also adopted a resolution that outlines the functions and powers of the Ministry of National Unity.
According to the document, the ministry will be responsible for:
- developing and implementing state policy in the areas of national unity, Ukrainian self-awareness, information policy, and strategic communications;
- protecting the rights and interests of Ukrainians abroad, creating conditions for their return or integration into Ukraine;
- coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet the cultural, educational, and linguistic needs of the Ukrainian diaspora;
- promoting the strengthening of national and civic identity in Ukraine.
Vice Prime Minister – Minister of National Unity Oleksiy Chernyshov described the adoption of this provision as an important step for systematic work with Ukrainians abroad.
This decision opens new opportunities for integration, social adaptation, and the preservation of the national identity of Ukrainians who have been forced to leave their homes, Chernyshov emphasized.
It is worth noting that in November 2024, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the creation of the Ministry of National Unity for targeted work with the multi-million Ukrainian community abroad.
