At the Taizhou Zoo (China), ordinary Chow Chow dogs were dyed to look like tiger cubs in an attempt to attract tourists. This controversial move has sparked outrage among some visitors, reminiscent of previous incidents where pets were passed off as pandas. This was reported by The Sun.
Footage taken at the Taizhou Zoo (Jiangsu province) shows the dogs with unibrows, painted orange with black stripes, roaming the yard, sniffing around, and resting their front paws on the fence.
It is clear that these are not tigers: their ears are too pointed, and the orange color of their fur appears unnatural. However, young children who have never seen this animal in real life might confuse the dog with a baby big cat.
Later, zoo staff admitted that these were indeed dyed Chow Chow dogs.
The Nuremberg Zoo (Germany) also found itself in a scandal, announcing plans to get rid of almost half of its 45 guinea baboons.
