Neither Ukraine nor Russia are likely to achieve their "maximalist goals" as a result of the war. Achieving peace will require significant effort.
This was stated in an interview by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to journalist Megyn Kelly.
Rubio emphasized that both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin have their own internal interests.
"If you imagine being Ukrainian, and Russians have made you suffer so much, are you now going to allow them to keep the land (under their control — ed.)? I mean, people in Ukraine would be upset about this, you would understand," the Secretary of State added.
However, according to him, there are also mature realities of life. They indicate that both sides are paying a heavy price for the war and both sides are interested in ending this conflict.
"This (the war — ed.) will not end with the maximalist goals of one side, and a lot of hard work will need to be done. And I think that only the United States under President Trump (Donald Trump — ed.) can make this possible, but it will not be easy, and it will take some time. But I know he is determined to achieve this," Rubio emphasized.
