Pokrovsk has become a key target for Russian troops attempting to organize a large-scale offensive operation.
This was reported by Lieutenant General Igor Romanenko during a broadcast on Radio NV. According to him, Russian forces have already regrouped their units following recent setbacks and have shifted their focus to Kurakhovo and Ugledar.
"This was evident a month ago. Our Defense Forces, utilizing three brigades, managed to slow down their advance. However, now the occupiers are trying to move to the offensive on the second defensive line of the Ukrainian military, which is located just 8 kilometers north of Ugledar," he noted.
Analysis of the situation indicates that if Russia fails to capture Pokrovsk directly, they may resort to a "cauldron" tactic, attempting to encircle Ukrainian forces from the south and north. This could lead to the strategic encirclement of Ukrainian troops, complicating their defense and increasing the risk of casualties.
Additionally, analysts from DeepState previously reported the capture of three settlements in the Donetsk region: Mykolaivka, Krasny Yar, and Kruty Yar, located near Myrnohrad.
"The situation in the region is complex, as Russian troops continue to strengthen their positions, including through engineering and fortification structures. However, many of these positions are poorly prepared, giving Ukrainian forces a chance for a counteroffensive," the analysts emphasized.
