Russian prisoners will no longer receive rewards for being sent to fight in Ukraine, according to Russian media reports.

One-time payments to prisoners in the Russian Federation who agreed to fight against Ukraine have been canceled starting January 1, 2025. This was reported by the Russian publication "Current Time."

"The government of Russia has issued a decree that cancels the one-time payment to prisoners for signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation to participate in the war in Ukraine," the statement said.

Journalists clarified that this new regulation will take effect on January 1, 2025.

"Payments will not be made to individuals who were serving a prison sentence on the day the contract for military service was concluded," the document states.

Previously, prisoners could sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and receive one-time payments.

The authors of the article also emphasized that there is currently a law in Russia that provides for conditional release for prisoners sent to the front. Criminal prosecution is fully terminated upon receiving a state award, the end of the war, or loss of life or health.

Recall that on December 31, the press service of the Special Operations Forces reported that the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces are making advances in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

On the same day, it was reported that the Ukrainian forces hit a bunker with Russians near Kursk. A massive fire broke out at the site.
