Renowned Ukrainian theater, film, and television director, as well as music video creator, Semen Horov, criticized the stance of singer and former People's Artist of Ukraine, Ani Lorak, during the war. He shared this in an interview with the YouTube project "Alone Together."
After the onset of the full-scale war, Ani Lorak sided with Russia and even considered changing her Ukrainian citizenship to Russian.
In the interview, director Semen Horov admitted that most Ukrainian stars, after gaining fame in the Russian show business, changed for the worse due to new negative traits. He recalled filming Lorak in one of his New Year's musicals: "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka," where Lorak played Oksana and the blacksmith Vakula was portrayed by Oleg Skripka.
"My attitude towards many Ukrainian artists began to shift as soon as they started spending most of their time not in Ukraine but in Russia. They visibly changed, in my opinion, for the worse. They became more self-serving, brazen, rude, and miserly," Horov explained.
The director mentioned that when Ani Lorak began collaborating with Philip Kirkorov in Russia, the negative influence on her behavior and changes in her mood became apparent.
"And even Karolina (Ani Lorak's real name — ed.), when she spent a long time in Russia and her producer was Kirkorov, I started to feel that I had nothing to talk about with her, that she was now a completely different person. Not the delicate and deep girl, cheerful and warm, but some kind of pompous provincial diva, a real loudmouth," the director stated.
As a reminder, in 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stripped six singers of their state awards, who held the title of People's Artists of Ukraine. Among them was Ani Lorak, who received the title in 2008.
