Artificial intelligence has created a self-portrait for the first time, illustrating how it believes it looks. This is reported by Daily Star.

The test was conducted by an insurance company that is examining the impact of art generated by artificial intelligence on human artists.

The AI painted itself as a blend of 40 artists who uploaded their selfies into the program.

"As AI image generators enhance their ability to create new works by studying the skills of human artists from various eras, a single piece may combine influences from da Vinci to Banksy and everyone in between," the report states.

The company's interest in such an experiment stemmed from the fact that this often occurs without compensating living artists or obtaining their consent.

According to research, 77% of collectors and 78% of art enthusiasts believe that artists should receive fair compensation for their works being used by AI models.

To shed light on this potential injustice, the company conducted the test and compensated all 40 of its artists.

"There is nothing wrong with AI learning to create art by studying and absorbing human art, as long as it is done ethically, transparently, and fairly," noted Robert Reed, head of the company's art and private clients division.

The report also found that among collectors (82%) and enthusiasts (76%), there is a strong desire for clear labeling to distinguish AI-generated art from human-created content.

"The extent to which AI-generated art imitates or even copies human-created artworks that exist, as well as the transparency of AI usage in creating artworks, are some of the key issues that will shape the future not only of AI-generated art but the market as a whole," Reed remarked.

As a reminder, artificial intelligence has shown what a restored Mariupol will look like after the war.
