Two residents of Kharkiv region, aged 32 and 21, got lost in the Carpathians and, after three days, sought help from rescuers. According to the State Border Guard Service, the men intended to reach Romania.
The men independently charted their route along the mountainous section of the state border and set off without any gear, food, or water, reports the State Border Guard Service.
After three days in the mountains, the travelers called for assistance from rescuers. They were located by border guards from the "Bohdan" unit of the Mukachevo squad, along with emergency service workers. The men were found within an hour and a half, around midnight on January 25.
As noted by the border guards, the travelers chose clothing that was completely unsuitable for the weather and had severely frozen by the time they met the search team. The men were taken to a medical facility, where doctors diagnosed both of them with general hypothermia.
The border guards filed administrative protocols under Article 204-1 (attempt to illegally cross the state border) of the Code of Administrative Offenses. A court will evaluate the men’s actions.
