On the morning of December 20, the Russian army launched missiles at the capital of Ukraine. Air defense systems engaged the targets, but debris that fell in the Holosiivskyi district caused a fire and significant destruction.
The Ukrainian Air Force warned of the threat of an air attack at 6:39 AM on December 20. They reported the launch of a "Kinzhal" missile carrier, a Russian MiG-31K aircraft.
An air raid alert was declared nationwide. Shortly after, the Armed Forces of Ukraine warned about several high-speed targets heading towards Kyiv, followed by ballistic missiles in the same direction. A series of explosions rang out in the capital. The city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported that air defense was operational.
The Kyiv City Military Administration informed about the aftermath of the missile strike. Debris from the intercepted missiles was recorded in several districts of the capital, with the Holosiivskyi district suffering the most damage.
“In the Holosiivskyi district, an office building, road surface, and a gas pipe were damaged, leading to a subsequent gas leak; five vehicles caught fire. According to preliminary reports, one person was killed, and another was injured. The information is being updated. At another location, the facade of an office building was damaged, causing a fire on the roof, and there was destruction on the fifteenth floor (people may be trapped). Preliminary reports indicate two individuals were injured and hospitalized,” the GVA reported at 8:29 AM.

Destruction was also noted in other districts: in Solomianskyi, a non-residential building caught fire; in Shevchenkivskyi, another non-residential structure was ablaze; in Pecherskyi, a garage was affected; in Dniprovskyi, the falling debris had no consequences. No reports of injuries in these cases have been received.
The Kyiv City Military Administration also reported that due to damage to the heating main, 630 residential buildings, 16 medical facilities, 17 schools, and 13 kindergartens in Kyiv were left without heat.

It is worth noting that the day before, Russian dictator Putin, during his "direct line," proposed to conduct a "high-tech duel" of the 21st century: to identify a target in Kyiv, concentrate all available air and missile defense there, and wait for the war criminal to strike that target with his "Oreshnik." This episode was published by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who made an obscene comment about who the Russian "leader" is.
“People are dying, and he finds it ‘interesting’… Dumbass,” Zelenskyy wrote.
