According to data from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), law enforcement has dismantled an FSB agent group – its members operated in three cities across Ukraine.
In total, the SBU reports that three men, who were likely Russian agents, were apprehended. Primarily, the suspects were tasked with gathering and relaying coordinates of military airfields, command posts, training centers, and factories where the Ukrainian army's equipment and drones were being repaired.
“To carry out their hostile mission, the FSB remotely recruited local unemployed individuals aged 23, 34, and 40, who were seeking ‘quick earnings’ in Telegram channels. All of them were dispersed across three regions of Ukraine but had a common Russian handler – a staff member from the FSB's Black Sea Fleet department. Cyber specialists from the SBU have already identified him,” the law enforcement officials clarified.
One of the agents was dispatched by the enemy to “work” in Lviv. There, the suspect secured a position as a courier in a construction company that had contracts with military units. Another individual involved is a resident of Kyiv region, who was searching for combat airfields with aviation in the area.
“Another traitor is a resident of Kharkiv, who was monitoring locations with the highest concentration of personnel and military equipment of the Defense Forces in the frontline city. He also covertly inquired among his acquaintances about local enterprises restoring the combat capabilities of Ukrainian military equipment,” the SBU added.
All three men were caught “in the act” while they were gathering information on potential targets for the Russian Federation. Additionally, the SBU emphasized that the suspects had their phones confiscated, containing relevant anonymous chats. Currently, the suspects are in pre-trial detention, facing life imprisonment.
