The accident occurred on February 23 at around 05:50 in the city of Balakliia in the Kharkiv region, near the central market.

As reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, a 49-year-old driver of a Peugeot struck a 55-year-old local woman who was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing.

“The man showed clear signs of alcohol intoxication. The injured woman was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries,” law enforcement officials noted.

Investigators have opened a criminal case. The police also detained the driver and informed him of the suspicion.

“Dear road users, please be attentive and follow traffic rules. Do not endanger yourself and those around you,” law enforcement officials urged.
